NK and The Complement System Flashcards
What is the Complement system
collection of proteins made in the liver ( Circulate in inactive form bc strong)
What are the proteins
C1, C2, C3, C5, C6-C9, B, D, MBL
Which proteins are activated by cleavage or confirmation change
Cleavage - C3-C5 | Rest confirmation change
Complement system roles
- Recruitment
- MAC - holy bacteria
- Opsonization
How do C3 and C5 work together?
C3 convertase actives A and B to make C5 convertase that activates C5 A and B
Which proteins for Inflammation Activation?
C3a and C5a (a for attract)
Which proteins for MAC activator
C5b - works by sitting on bacteria to recruit C6-C9 to make a hole
Which proteins for Opsonization?
Cb3
What is the Classic Pathway for C3 Convertase
IgM an IgG during activation in pathogen get bound by C1 and recruit C2 and C4
What is the Alternative pathway for C3 Concertase?
C3 Spontaneous falls apart and bind to pathogen surface to recruit B and D to make C3 convert
what is the Lectin pathway for c3 convertase
MBL binds to Mannose receptor on pathogen and recruits C2 and C4 to form C3 convert
What protects us from the complement system
CD59 - MAC block on our cells | DAF C3 convertase on our cells
Lack C3 convertase
no complement | high infections with encapsulated bacteria
C8 Lack
No MAC | Neiseria - lead to gonorhea or meningitis
CD59 DAF Lack
night time RBC death and red urine
