What is the MOA of Nitroglycerine?
Nitrates are potent vasodilators that increase blood flow to coronary arteries and decrease workload by dilating peripheral vasculature and reducing preload.
What is the onset time for Nitroglycerine?
1-3 minutes SL
What is the duration time for Nitroglycerine?
Peak: 5-10 minutes
What are the indications for giving Nitroglycerine?
Chest pain associated with ACS and Acute pulmonary edema (unless accompanied by hypotension)
Also a first-line therapy for acute CHF
What are the contraindications for giving Nitroglycerine?
Hypotension (systolic below 90mmHg), use of phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors (ED drugs)
What is the trade name of Nitroglycerine?
Nitrostat
What is the dose of Nitroglycerine given?
0.4mg
May repeat dose every 5 minutes as long as BP is greater than 90 systolic (up to 3 doses)
By which route is Nitroglycerine given?
Sublingual
