newtons laws Flashcards
what is a force
push or a pull
what is newtons second law/ law of acceleration
acceleration of body is proportional to the force causing it, acceleration take place in the direction in which the force acts
newtons first law / law of inertia
a body continues in a state of rest or uniform velocity unless acted upon by an external force
newtons third law/ law of action reaction
for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
example of newtons first law/ law of inertia
football is in a state of rest on the penalty spot until acted upon by the external force of a players foot
example of newtons second law/ law of acceleration
acceleration of the rock is proportional to the force applied to it by the performer, and the rock accelerates in the direction in which performer applied force to it
example of newtons third law/ law of action reaction
as the high jumper applies force to the ground, the ground applies an equal and opposite force back to the high jumpers leg allowing them to jump
what is the center of mass
point at which body is balanced in all directions
what is the base of support
point of contact
line of gravity
center of mass to floor
what increases the stability of someone
center of mas = lower
line of gravity = inside base of support
base of support = more contact
advantages of newtons laws
- can be used to make someone stable for example a rugby scrum
- being unstable creates momentum
