different types of forces Flashcards
what is a direct force
a force applied through the centre of mass resulting in linear motion (travelling straight) e.g. javelin, ski jump, shot put
what is an eccentric force
a force applied outside the centre of mass resulting in angular motion (creates spin) e.g. spin bowl, golf shot, topspin table tennis
what is linear motion
if the force is applied directly though the centre of mass (direct force) linear motion is produced. when all parts of the body move in the same direction, at the same speed at the same time in a curved or straight line.
what is angular motion
if a force is applied outside the centre of mass an angular motion is produced. when all ;arts of the body move in a circle or part circle about a fixed axis of rotation.
what is general motion
a combination of linear and angular motion e.g. climbing = torso moves in linear way and the arms and legs move in an angular way
