What is a ‘masthead’ ?
The main title displayed on the front page of a newspaper
What is a ‘skyline’ ?
Information panel on the front page that tells the reader about the stories involved in the paper - used to tempt readers
What is an ‘Edition’ ?
What is a ‘standfirst’ ?
A block of text that introduces the story that is usually in a different style to that of the body text and headline
What is a ‘caption’
A brief description of a photograph or graphic - usually credits as to who took the photo
What is a ‘byline’ ?
A line above the story that gives the authors name and sometimes their job and location
What is a ‘Body text’ ?
The written material that makes up the main body of an article - instead of headlines stand first and captions.
What is a ‘sidebar’
A panel or box on a page containing graphics or statistical graphs about an article
- used to be eye catching and to break up the story
What is a ‘package’ ?
A group of connected stories across one or many pages c
What is a ‘Crosshead’ ?
Large / bolded text that breaks up a long story
What is a ‘Pull quote’ ?
A quote from the story that is enlarged and appears within the text - usually at the start of the main body text
What is a ‘Standalone’ ?
Picture story that can exist on its own or on a front page leading to a story inside
What is an ‘imprint’ ?
Legal information and address of the paper
What is a ‘page furniture’ ?
Everything on the page except pictures or text of stories
