Describe the Hadley cell

A

Air rises at the equator (the doldrums) this hot air rieses, and then sinks as it meets the cooler ferrel cell.
At this meeting precipitation tends to occur, the air travels southwards heating up as it does
It then has enough heat to rise up again at the doldrums commencing cycle again

Describe the polar cells

A

Cold air sinks near the arctic circle, this cools and condenses to form precipitation over northern latitudes
The air then travels southwards heating until it reaches the warm air from the ferrel cell
The air then rises causing dry conditions for land beneath, air then travels northwards cooling as it does

A

The middle of the ITCZ, air circulation is determined by the Hadley and polar cells either side similar to a cog system
