neuropsychology Flashcards
What are the four key components of cognitive rehabilitation?
- education about cognitive weaknesses and strengths (developing awareness to the problem)
- process training (development of skills through direct retraining or practicing the underlying cognitive skills) (resolving the problem)
- strategy training (use of environmental, internal and external strategies… compensating rather than resolving the problem)
- functionial activities training (application of the other three components in everyday lief)
compensatory strategies?
dealing with AD
teaches new ways of performing cognitive tasks but working around deficits
restorative strategies?
attempting to improve functioning in specific domains with the ultimate goal of returning function to premorbid levels
(spaced retrieval, drills, vanishing cues, errorless learning, reality orientation, reminiscence therapy)
spaced retrieval
asked to recall info over longer periods
drills
repeated attention and memory tasks
vanishing cues
information is presented with diminishing intensity
errorless orientation
orienting information I sonctinually presented
reminesence therapy
patients recall past events to place ones life in perspective
