Neuron Flashcards
What are dendrites?
Picks up info about environment (extension of the cell membrane)
What are receptors?
Covers dendrites and responds to stimuli
What are shwann cells?
Covers axon and affects the speed of message and repairs axon
What is the axon terminal?
End of axon where neurons communicate to the next (neurotransmitters)
Autonomic?
Involuntary responses
Somatic?
Voluntary responses
Sensory neurons?
Brings info to C.N.S about environment
Motor neuron?
Brings info out of C.N.S about environment
Sympathetic N.S?
Short term stress response (fight or flight)
Parasympathetic N.S?
Recovery or long term stress response (rest + digest)
Explain ions when their in Polarization
K+ is inside (-) in cytoplasm
Na+ is outside (+) in extra cellular
What happens in depolarization?
Message is sent
What happens in Repolarization?
K+ leave through different channels 1st
Na+ follows 2nd
What happens in Hyperpolarization?
Na+/K+ pump used ATP to bring K+ in and Na+ out (returns to rest)
Does the Reflex Arc include the brain?
No
What is the order of the Reflex Arc and what do they do?
Receptor: info on the stimuli
Sensory Neuron: into to C.N.S
Interneuron: part of spinal cord
Motor Neuron: info out of C.N.S
Effector: carries out action
What are A and B of the the 6th step in the synapse?
A. Na+ enter and depolarizes where the message is sent (ECITATORY NEUROTRANSMITTERS)
B. K+ leave and hyperpolarizes and message is stopped (INHIBITORY NEUROTRANSMITTERS)
What is the 7th step of the synapse?
Enzymes remove neurotransmitters
