Brain Eye And Ear Flashcards
What are the 4 lobes of the brain and what do they do?
Occipital lobe: sight
Parietal lobe: touch,temp and taste
Frontal lobe: logic and memory
Temporal lobe: hearing
What part of the brain involves balance?
Cerebellum
What does the medulla oblongata do?
Controls the automatic nervous system
Which part of the brain monitors homeostasis?
Hypothalamus
What does the pituitary gland do?
Makes hormone and has endocrine glands
What is the 3 layers of the eye and their functions?
Sclera: maintains eye shape
Choroid layer: blood vessels
Retina: where the photo receptors are (rods and cones)
Cornea?
Bends light
Iris?
Changes size of pupil based on light and the colourful muscle
Lens?
Focuses light on retina and stimulates photoreceptors
Optic nerve?
Contains sensory neurons and stimulates photo receptors about the vision to the occipital lobe
What is balance controlled by in the ear?
Semilunar canals
Tympanic membrane?
Ear drum and changes sound waves
Ossicles?
Bones that amplify and conduct sound
Eustachian?
Connects the ear, nasal cavity and pharynx and releases pressure to protect the ear drum
Explain the organ of cordi?
Cilia mechanoreceptors that float in liquid
- attachments to sensory neurons
- fluid is moved because of oval window
- mechanoreceptors move to cause depolarization
What is included in the middle ear and what’s it made of?
Solid and it includes ossicles, eustachian and oval window
What does the outer ear include and what is it made of?
Gas and it includes pinna and auditory canal
What does the inner ear include and what is it made of?
Liquid and it includes the cochlea and organ of cordi
