Q

Steps of DNA Replication?

A
  1. DNA Helicase - Unwind and unzip
  2. DNA Polymerase - makes a new strand of DNA
  3. Leading Strand - synthesizes continuously
  4. Lagging Strand - synthesizes discontinuously
  5. DNA Ligase - glue Okazaki fragments
  6. DNA Polymerase - proofreads

Q

Step of Transcription?

A
  1. Initiation - RNA polymerase binds to 3 side
  2. Elongation - RNA Polymerase moves along gene from 3-5
    - copies into RNA strand
  3. Termination - RNA Polymerase stops at the terminator

Q

Steps of translation?

A
  1. Initiation - ribosome attaches to mRNA looks for AUG
  2. Elongation - ribosome reads mRNA 3 at a time
    - tRNA has anticodon that is complementary to mRNA codon
  3. Termination - ribosome reaches a stop codon
    - enzyme called a release factor causing molecule to break apart

Q

3 Types of Mutations?

A
  1. Silent: no change to amino acids
  2. Misense: cause a change to amino acid
  3. Nonsense: causes stop codon and shorter protein
