Neurologic Diseases Flashcards
The first part of any treatment for diseases
Making a Diagnosis
What are the 8 groups of Neurologic diseases?
Vascular
Infectious
Degenerative
Neoplastic
Demyelinating
Trauma
Congenital/Developmental
Metabolic
This is caused by injury or diseases that affect the blood vessels of the nervous system which includes sinuses.
Vascular diseases
What type of blood flow comes into the sinuses?
Venous blood flow
What is the onset of vascular diseases?
Usually abrupt or very rapid. Most at minutes to hours
This is caused by the invasion of microbes in the nervous system.
Infectious diseases
What are the types of infectious diseases of the nervous system?
Bacterial
Viral
Parasites
Tuberculous
Cryptococcal
Fungal
What is the onset of infectious diseases?
Usually a few days to a few weeks
What does neoplastic mean?
New growth
This is caused by the growth of tumors in the nervous system
Neoplastic diseases
A fast-growing type of tumor
Malignant
A type of tumor that grows relatively slower
Benign
What is the onset of neoplastic diseases?
few weeks to several months
fastest is 3-4 weeks
It is caused by the slow deterioration of neurons
Degenerative diseases
What is the onset of degenerative diseases?
Very slow and insidious onset; takes several years
