Neurodynamics and the UE Pt 1 Flashcards
Basic necessities of nerves
Space
Blood flow
Movement
Peripheral neuropathic pain
Nerve roots or peripheral nerve trunks that have been injured by mechanical and/or chemical stimuli that exceeds the capabilities of the nervous system
Positive symptoms
Pain, paresthesia, dysthesia, and spasm associated with abnormal excitability fo the nerve
Negative symptoms
Hypoesthesia/anesthesia or weakness associated with reduced impulse conduction
Nerve bed
All surrounding tissue that the nerve interfaces
Neurodynamic tests
Tests that assess the physical capability of the nervous system by using multi-joint movements of the limbs and/or trunk to alter the length and dimensions of the nerve bed
Mechanosensitivity
Activation of impulses when neural structure is subjected to mechanical stimuli. E.g. how easily the nerves are activated when exposed to mechanical force
Adverse neurodynamics
Symptoms resulting from failure of the dynamic protective mechanisms of the nerve
What does hypoxia and intraneural fibrosis lead to?
Sensitization of CT nociceptors
