NeuroAnatomy - Lecture Two Objectives Flashcards
What does the ACA supply in the brain?
sagittal wall of frontal and parietal lobes
What does the MCA supply in the brain?
lateral portions of frontal, temporal, and parietal lobes
What does the MCA bifurcate into and where?
Superior and Inferior MCA. Superior runs above the lateral fissure, inferior runs below
What does the PCA supply in the brain?
inferior/medial temporal lobe and the occipital lobe
What is the MCA’s pathway?
As it leaves the Circle of Willis it travels laterally and continues through the lateral (Sylvian) fissure
What is the ACA’s pathway?
It runs anteriorly in the longitudinal fissure along the medial surface cerebral hemisphere, ascending and “circling back” along cingulate gyrus
What is the PCA’s pathway?
It runs posterior along medial and inferior surfaces of each temporal lobe and eventually “wraps” around to posterior surfaces of each hemisphere
Which hemisphere is considered our Dominant hemisphere and why?
Left because it contains our language loop
What does the FRONTAL lobe control?
• motor movement
• executive function (goal
directed behavior)
• emotions, self-awareness and
motivation
• social behavior
What does the PARIETAL lobe control?
• somatosensory perception
• integration of auditory, visual &
somatospatial information
• understanding communication
• thinking, analysis, directing
attention
What does the TEMPORAL lobe control?
• auditory perception/processing
• plays role in understanding
language
• involved in long term memory
and emotion
What does the OCCIPITAL lobe control?
visual perception and processing
What are the six types of sensory input?
auditory, visual, somatosensory, olfactory, gustatory, vestibular
The primary sensory cortex….
detects the sensory modality
the secondary sensory cortex….
recognizes the sensory modality
