Neuroanatomy: CNS ventricular system Flashcards
How many ventricles are there and what are their names?
There are 4 ventricles –> 2 lateral ventricles, 1 third ventricle, and 1 fourth ventricle. They are home to the choroid plexus and the cerebrospinal fluid.
Which horns of the lateral ventricle are in what lobes of the cortex?
The anterior horn is in the frontal lobe, the inferior horn is in the temporal lobe, the posterior horn is in the occipital lobe, and the body is in the parietal lobe. The trigone is between the posterior horn and the body
Where is cerebrospinal fluid made?
Choroid Plexus –> simple cuboidal epithelium, vascular, filter-like in order to create cerebrospinal fluid, in all ventricles
How does cerebrospinal fluid circulate through the ventricles?
How does cerebrospinal fluid exit the ventricular system and where does it go?
Exits through the 3rd ventricle to cerebral aqueduct into 4th ventricle and out through the 2 foramen of Luschka and 1 midline foramen and into subarachnoid space.
