neuro terms Flashcards
asthenia
generalized muscle weakness
dysarthria
disorder of motor component of speech, one-word-at-a-time
dysdiadochokinesia
inability to preform rapid alternating movement
dysmetria
inability to judge distance or range of movement
dyssynergia
movement decomposition (instead of fluid movement, it is broken into a sequence or small components)
gait ataxia
broad BOS, upright stance, poor stability
hypotonia
decreased muscle tone
nystagmus
rhythmic alternating eye movments
rebound phenomenon
if you are applying resistance to elbow flexion and quickly take it away, your body will “check” or stop the motion if it is not intact then you will punch yourself in the face
akinesia
inability to initiate movement
athetosis
slow involuntary movement “worm like”
bradykinesia
decreased amplitude and velocity of voluntary movement
chorea
involuntary rapid movement, irregular, and jerking (associated with huntingtons disease)
choreoathetosis
both chorea and athetosis
dystonia
involuntary sutatined contraction of agonist and antagonist muscles causing abnormal posturing
