Network types Flashcards
1
Q
What are the two types?
A
P2P, client server
2
Q
P2P explain
A
- simple network
- provides shared resources e.g. software, files, printers
- enables peers to find data without relying on a centralised server
3
Q
client server explain
A
- one centralised powerful computer ( the server)
- server is a hub to which many less powerful personal computers (clients) connect to.
- clients run programs and access data that r stored on the server
- server purpose is to serve the clients
4
Q
P2P advantages
A
- cost saving
- no network manager
- easy to set up
- no reliance on server
- operating costs r lower
- peer responsibility
5
Q
P2P disadvantages
A
- poorer security
- needs more IT knowledge
- backups r decentralised so have to be performed by by each individual PC by each user
- computers may run slow
- hard to find files
- only suitable for small networks (<15 comps)
6
Q
client server advantages
A
- security is better
- backups centralised
- communication centralised
- administration of network performed centrally
7
Q
client server disadvants
A
- more expensive than P2P
- requires specialist knowledge
- reliant on server, networks unusable if server breaks down
- software is sophisticated and expensive
