Nervous tissue Flashcards
Central nervous system components
Brain and spinal cord
Peripheral nervous system component and function
Every nervous tissue beside CNS and acts as messenger between CNS and body
Nervous tissue functions
- Sensory of environment
- Integrative - information analyses
- Motor - Initiate action
Neuron component and function
Contain 1. Dendrites convey action potentials and 2. Axons convey impulses to other neurons
Multipolar neuron
Motor neuron to control muscle cell - many dendrites
Bi polar neuron
Sensory neuron that relays information between receptor to neuron - Many branches, one axon and dendrite
Uni polar neuron
Sensory nerve response - Continous convergence of axon and dendrites and branches and cell body outside the line
Anaxonic neuron
Brain neuron - Many dendrites and branches
Neuroglia function
Structure and repair nervous tissue, phagocyte, nutrients supply, regulate interstitial fluid
Astrocyte -
CNS neuroglia
Supports, repairs, communciates with neurons, maintain homeostais of neuron and blood brain barrier
Oligodendrocyte
CNS Neuroglia
Insulation of neuron and accelerates action potential
Microglia
CNS neuroglia
Phagocyte/macrophage
Ependymal cell
CNS Neuroglia
Lines cavities where cerebrospinal fluid flows to assist movement via cilia
Has microvilli to sense, sample and modify CSF
Shwann cell
PNS neuroglia (Like oligodendrocyte)
Insulating myelin sheath around axon for structural support
satellite cell
PNS neuroglia (Like astrocyte)
Maintains environment of peripheral neurons and provides support and fluid exchange
