Cell division Flashcards
Somatic cell division
division of body cells via mitosis to form identical daughter cells for growth and development
Reproductive cell division
Germ cell division via meiosis to form genetically diverse daughter cells
Interphase - G1 phase
Duplication of organelles and cytosolic components
Centrosome replication begins
Interphase - DNA synthesis
DNA replication begins in nucleus as strands are seperated via hydrogen bonds
Interphase - G2
Replication of centrosomes is completed
Checking DNA sythesis
Mitotic phase - Prophase
Mitotic spindles formed for alignment while nuclear envelope breaks. DNA condenses from chromosome to sister chromatids
Mitotic phase - Metaphase
Chromosomes line up at centre of nucleus via microtubules
Mitotic phase - Anaphase
Sister chromatids seperate into seperate sides of the cell
Mitotic phase - Telophase/cytokinesis
Cell cleaves to form two daughter cells identical to parents
G1 checkpoint
Checks DNA condition, size, and appropriate signals
M checkpoint
Checks if chromosomes are bonded to spindles
Meosis
Reproductive cell division resulting in geneticaly diverse daughter haploids
Meiosis - Prophase 1
Two sister chromatids bond forming a tetrad thus recombination begins in an exchange of genes
Meiosis - Metaphase 1
Tetrads line up at nucleus centre
Meiosis - Anaphase 1
Tetrads split in half and sister chromatids move to each side of cell
