Nervous System Revision 2 Flashcards
What are the two functions of the Somatic NS?
- to control voluntary mvt of skeletal muscles
2. to transmit sensory info to the CNS, and motor info from the CNS
What are the main function of the Autonomic NS?
- to control the involuntary mvt of nonskeletal muscles
2. to regulate body functions automatically eg. breathing, heart beating
What nervous system is the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic NS apart of?
Autonomic Nervous System
What is the Sympathetic NS and its purpose?`
- fight flight freeze response
2. enables us to respond to threats for survival
What is the function of the PNS?
to maintain homeostatsis, and day to day bodily functions
FLOWER POT
Frontal lobe, parietal lobe, occipital lobe, temporal lobe
List functions of the Frontal lobe
speech, planning, social skills, emotion, personality
What is the name of the cortex in the Frontal lobe? What is its function?
MOTOR CORTEX. Controls muscle movement
What is the name of the cortex in the Parietal Lobe? what is does it control?
Somatosensory Cortex. Controls sensory info from the body. (eg touch, pain, temp.)
Where is Wernicke’s Area located in the brain? What is it responsible for. (2)
Temporal Lobe. Interpretation of speech and language comprehension
What is the name of the cortex in Occiptal Lobe?
Primary Visual Cortex
Which hemisphere of the brain responsible for –> language comprehension and speech articulation?
Left
What type of impulse does a neuron form?
electrical neural impulse
What does an excitatory neurotransmitter do? and name one.
activates and excites the postsynaptic neurons to carry on action potential. eg GLUTAMATE
What is inhitory effect. name a neurotransmitter
inhibits postsynaptic neurons from firing action potentional. eg GABA
