=Hippocampus is affected first.
-stores Long term Declarative memory, therefore the disease reduces the ability to encode and store new memories after damage to the hippocampus.

Why would someone in the EARLY stages of Alzheimer’s NOT show Retrograde Amnesia?
A
- cerebral cortex has not yet been affected
- Long term memories are also stored in the Cerbral cortex, and no longer requires the Hippocampus to retrieve the Long term memories
