=Hippocampus is affected first.
-stores Long term Declarative memory, therefore the disease reduces the ability to encode and store new memories after damage to the hippocampus.

A
  • cerebral cortex has not yet been affected
  • Long term memories are also stored in the Cerbral cortex, and no longer requires the Hippocampus to retrieve the Long term memories
