Classical Conditioning Flashcards
What is DEF of Classical conditioning ?
A simple form of learning which occurs through repeated association of two or more different stimuli in a three stage process
What are the key feautures of Classical conditioning?
association of two or more stimuli, causes reflexive and involuntary behaviours, (of which can be physiologcal or emotional), no conscious control over behaviour
List three examples of involuntary behaviors that can happen during Classical Conditioning
fear, salivating, vommiting
What are the three phases in CC?
before conditioning, during conditioning, after conditioning
which stimulus’ and responses occur in Phase one?
Neutral stimulus, unconditioned stimulus, unconditioned response
What is phase 2?
during conditioning
what happens in Phase 2?
NS paired with UCS, NS becomes the CS and a Conditioned Response is created
What happens in Phase 3
Conditioned stimulus creates Conditioned response
In Pavlov’s experiment, what are the NS, UCS, UCR, CS, and CR?
NS= Bell UCS= Food UCR= Salivation at food CS= Bell CR= Salivation at bell
Name the four classical condition processes
- stimulus generalisation
- stimulus discrimination
- extinction
- spontaneous Recovery
When does a stimulus fall into Stimulus Generalization. (‘when a stimulus —– )Give an example
when a stimulus simlar to a Conditioned stimulus triggers a conditioned response.
eg. generalising fear of duck to all birds
What is stimulus discrimination? (when you only respond —–) one example.
when you ONLY responds to the Conditioned stimulus and not any similar stimulus.
eg. you fear pitbulls but no other breed.
What is Extinction?
gradual decrease in the legnth or rate of a Conditioned response (salivation) when Unconditioned Stimiulus ()is no longer present.
What happens during Spontaneous Recovery?
reappearance of Conditioned response when Conditioned Stimulus is present after a period of extinction
Jenny got pricked by a red rose. Now she doesnt like handling red flowers. What is this an example of?
Stimulus Generalisation
When janelle and kate were toddlers, mother often used naptime to vacuum,. Now when Janelle and kate hear vaccuum cleaners they feel sleepy.
name the NS US, UCR, CS, CR
NS= Vaccum US= Naptime UCR= Feels sleepy because of naptime CS= Vaccuum CR= Feels sleepy because of vaccumm
In the little Albert experiment, who conducted it?
John B Watson
In the Little Albert experiment, What is the NS and CS?
white rat
In the little Albert exp, what is the USC?
loud noise
Which ethical principles were breached in the Little Albert exp.
Voluntary participation
No harm principle
debriefing
Withdrawal rights
ETHICS: RICDVR. How do I remember these letters?
really intelligent chics do very well
What is informed consent?
including method, time, withdrawal rights/risks/confidentiality, signature all in WRITING
What are the 6 ethical principles? (RICDVW)
role of researcher, informed consent, confidentiality debriefing, Voluntary participation, withdrawal rights
which researcher experimented on dog salivation?
Ivan pavlov
What is weakened in Spontatneous Recovery?
the association between the conditioned stimulus (eg. bell)and conditioned response (salivation)
