Q

What is the function of a neurone ?

A
  • Membrane ion channels
  • Nerve impulse
  • Change in ion balance travels from one end of the cell to the other

6
Q

The function of motor neurone ?

A

Receive incoming stimuli from receptor (eyes) and relay the information to CNS
detecting outside the body, e.g. light or sound

Q

The function of relay neurone ?

A

Relay messages between other neurones, sensory + motor.
Found most often in brain + spinal cord
No myelin sheath and dendrites

8
Q

The function of motor neurone ?

A

Neurones located near effectors, glands + muscles
Carry impulses from CNS to effectors to initiate a response
Axons myelinated, nodes of Ranvier speed up conduction

10
Q

The function of hindbrain ?

A

Medulla oblongata- end of brainstem controlling heart rate

Pons - connects the cerebral cortex with the medulla transferring messages between various parts of the brain and the spinal cord

The cerebellum controls body movement and maintains balance

Q

Where is the hypothalamus located?

A

in the forebrain its responsible for hunger and thirst and helps control the ANS as it regulates body temperature

Q

What is the function of peripheral nervous system

A

1) Afferent (sensory) nerves carry information from sensory receptors to CNS

2) Efferent (motor) nerves carry information from CNS to effector organs

Q

What is efferent system divided functionally into ?

A

Somatic system
Autonomic system

17
Q

What is the somatic system ?

A

Controls voluntary movements via skeletal muscles - afferent and efferent nerves (eyes)

18
Q

The function of the autonomic system ?

A

sympathetic + parasympathetic nervous systems have antagonistic control over unconscious functions

19
Q

What does peripheral nervous system consists of ?

A

somatic and autonomic (ANS) nervous systems

20
Q

What does the nervous system consists of ?

A

Central and peripheral nervous system

21

A

Brain and spinal cord
