Hormone control Flashcards
What is an hormone ?
lipid-based chemical messengers secreted into the blood
A major human hormones produced by classic endocrine glands ?
Pancreas
Ovaries
Pituitary
What is an hydrophilic molecule ?
its first messengers that travel in blood but only affect cells with specific receptor proteins on their surface.
What is a hydrophobic molecule ?
Hydrophobic steroid hormones pass easily into cells through the lipid bilayer.
Then bind to intracellular target receptor molecules within the cytoplasm
What is negative feedback ?
1)Negative feedback underpins homeostatic regulation
2) feeds back directly or indirectly to the endocrine gland to regulate its secretion
The function of adrenal glands ?
Outer cortex produces steroid hormones
Inner medulla secreted adrenaline
The cause of adrenaline ?
Air passages to dilate
Blood vessels to contract
Reduces body’s ability to feel pain
