NERVES Flashcards
Mixed nerves
Motor and sensory nerves
Motor nerves
axons with only motor neurons
sensory nerves
axons with only sensory neurons
how many spinal nerves?
31 pairs
almost all are mixed
how many cranial nerves?
12 pairs
Spinal nerve
Anterior root
Posterior root
Posterior root ganglion
Spinal nerve
Sensory info
Travels into spinal cord POSTERIOR root
Motor info
travels out from spinal cord ANTERIOR root
Posterior horn
interneurons and sensory nerves
Lateral horn
autonomic motor neurons
Nerve plexuses
Brachial
Lumbar
Sacral
plexus
intertwine to create a network of nerves
Bracial Plexus
Radial nerve
Median nerve
Ulnar nerve
Ulnar nerve
Motor:
hand muscles, a few finger flexors
Sensory:
skin on 1/2 of hand
temperature, pain, touch sensations start there then travel ulnar nerve to spinal cord and then to brain
Median nerve
Motor:
forearm. pronation, wrist flexors, finger flexors, thumb movers
Sensory:
some of the hand. mainly fingers
Radial nerve
Motor:
supinator, wrist extenders, thumb extenders, trcieps, brachiaradilis
Sensory:
Skin on back of arm, triceps, hand, knuckles
Lumbar Plexus
Femoral nerve & Obturator nerve
Femoral nerve
MMotor:
Quar, sactorius, iliopsoas, pectineus
Sensory:
front of thigh and moving medially down to foot
Obturator Nerve
Motor:
Leg adductor
Sensory:
small medial side of thight
Sacral Plexus
Tibial nerve & common fibular
Tibial nerve
Motor:
Back of leg
hamstring
Plantor flexors
Sensory:
BOTTOM OF FOOT
Common fibular nerve
Motor:
Front of leg, biceps femoris, fibularis muscles, tibias anterior, toe extenders
Sensory:
bottom half of leg, lateral area & front area and top of foot
Cranial Nerves
Olfactory Optic Oculomotor Trochlear Trigeminal Abducens Facial Vestibulocochlear Glossopharyngeal Vagus Accessory Hypoglossal
