Nerves Flashcards
What is the first nerve that comes from the lumbar plexus?
Iliohypogastric (L1)
What nerve roots is the lumbar plexus?
L1-L5
What does the iliohypogastric nerve supply?
Abdominal muscles and skin of inguinal/pubic regions
Nerve roots of ilioinguinal? Distribution?
L1, supplies skin of penis and scrotum/ mons pubis and labia majora
Describe the route of iliohypogastric nerve
L1-> crosses quadratus lumborum-> pierces transversus abdominis
Describe route of ilioinguinal nerve
L1-> crosses quadratus lumborum-> goes through superficial inguinal ring
Describe genitofemoral nerve
L1-2, supplies skin over femoral triangle and genital branch supplies cremaster muscle, scrotum/ mons pubis, labia majora
Which nerve has roots of L2-3?
Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve of the thigh
Describe route of lat fem n. of thigh
Travels accross iliacus and enters thigh under inguinal ligament
What nerves have roots L2-L4?
Femoral and Obturator
Femoral n. supplies:
Flexors of the hip and knee
Obturator nerve supplies:
Adductors of the thigh
What nerve is L4-5?
Lumbosacral trunk-> sacral plexus
What nerve root values is the sacral plexus?
L4-S4 (with help of lumbosacral trunk)
Where is the sacral plexus found?
In fascia that covers anterior surface of piriformis
What muscles are supplied by the sacral plexus directly?
Obturator internus, piriformis, levator ani
Name the main nerves from the sacral plexus that leave via the greater sciatic foramen
Sciatic nerve and pudendal nerve
