Nerves Flashcards
Cranial nerves
Nerves that project from brain to PNS
Spinal nerves
Nerves that project from spinal cord to PNS
Somatosensation
Dendric ends are activates, travel to CNS which translates it. Name for all the sensations derived from the body
Motor neurons
Bodies in CNS and send axons out to muscles/glands.
Somatic (body)
Neurons that act on skeletal muscles make up somatic proportion
Autonomic
Neurons that act on visceral muscles and glands (Not necessarily with neural input, like heartbeat etc.)
Sympathetic division
Responds to stressful stimulation and helps flight or flight.
Parasympathetic division
Regenerative, growth promoting and energy conserving functions.
Tracks in spinal
Ascending; carry info to the brain
Descending; Carry commands from brain
Reflex
Does not always need the brain, Reflexes controlled by pattern generators eg
