Emotion
Subjective feeling that is mentally directed toward some object.
Affect
Feeling associated with an emotion. In dimention of un/pleasentness and degree of arousal
Mood
Last for longer period, and can colour aspect of thought/behavior.
Discrete emotion theory
Belief that basic emotions are innate and are associated with distinctive bodily/facial reactions
James peripheral feedback theory
Theory based on the idea that bodily arousal causes emotion. Emotional state follows based on perception of the body
Common sense theory
Stimulus is seen, emotion follows causing bodily arousal
Schachter’s theory
Stimulus is perceived, causing bodily arousal and emotion, which effect each other in severeness.
Amygdala routes
Subcortical ; rapid, analyzed before sensory areas are processed
Cortical; slower route, more detail, after processing.
Two hemispheres
left; positive, approach, moving toward stimulus
Right; negative, withdrawal
