Attempt to explain behavior in terms of what it accomplishes, based on analogy studies

A
Traits that ancestors needed but are still present, though no longer necessary. Like grasp reflex.

Similarity that exist because of shared ancestors

Similarity that exists because of shared environment, creating similar characteristics though different species.
