Brain structure Flashcards
Brainstem
Medulla
Pons
Midbrain
Thalamus
Medulla and pons
Organize reflexes that are more complex and sustained than spinal reflexes, like balance or vital reflexes like breathing and heart rate.
Midbrain
Has neural centers that help govern typical movement patterns, like eating/drinking.
Cerebellum
Little brain, rapid well timed sequences of muscle movements. Feed forward manner, programming appropriate force and timing before it’s initiated.
Basal ganglia
Produce of slow intricate movements. Sensory info in feedback manner, senses provide info and basal adjusts based on that info.
Thalamus
Atop the brainstem, Relay station/switch board of the brain. Connects most parts together. Also arousal function for rest of brain.
