Nernst and GHK Flashcards
1
Q
What is the membrane potential
A
The plasma membranes of all cells are polarised electrically
Membrane potential is the separation of opposite charges across the membrane
Units are in mV
2
Q
What is EM
what is this due to
A
difference between the thin layers of ICF and ECF located next to the inside and outside of the membrane
due to the differences in concentration and permeability of key ions
3
Q
What can excitable cells do
A
have the ability to produce rapid tranient changes in their membrane potential when exited (action potential)
