What is a benign neoplasm
Growth of non aggressive cells that are capsulated in an area. They may compress organs
What is a malignant neoplasm
Aggressive and replicable cancers that spreads to a distal site. It travels through the body and can invade new areas. Disorganised
What is a blastoma
Type of cancer caused by malignancy of stem cells
What is the difference between benign and malignant neoplasms (effect on host)
B = slight harm
M = significant harm due to invasion
CAUTION - clinical red flags
C = change in bowel or bladder
A = sore that doesn’t heal
U = unusual bleeding or discharge
T = thickening or a lump
I = indigestion or difficulty swallowing
O = obvious change in wart or mole
N = nagging cough or hoarseness
