Q

what are the main actions of the SCM?

A

unilateral contraction: tilts head to same side and rotates it so face is turned superiorly toward opposite side

bilateral contraction: extrends neck at atlanto-occipital joints. flexes cervical vertebrae so that chin approaches manibrum. extends superior cervicle vertebrae so chin is thrust forward with head kept level. with cervicle vertebrae fixed, may elevate manubrium and medial end of clavicles, assisting pump-handle action of deep respiration

Q

WHAT does the lesser occipital nerve innervate?

8
Q

WHAT does the greater auricular nerve innervate?

A

the greater auricular nerve ascends vertically across the SCM onto the parotid gland, where it divides and supplies the skin and sheath over the gland, the posterior aspect of the auricle, and the skin overlying the angle of the mandible to the mastoid process

10
Q

what does the transverse cervical nerve innervate?

A

the transverse cervucle nerve supplies the skin covering the anterior cervical region; the nerve curves around the middle of the posterior border of the SCM and passes anteriorly and horizontally across it, deep to the EJV and platysma

12
Q

What do the supraclavicular nerves innervate?

A

they emerge from as a common trunk undercover of the SCM and send small branches to the skin of the neck and cross the clavicle to supply the skin over the shoulder.

Q

what does the phrenic nerve innervate?

A

sole motor supply to the diaphram. in the thorax the nerves supply the mediastinal pleural and the pericardium

c3 c4 c5 keeps the phrenic nerve alive

15
Q

where does the external jugular vein begin?

A

near the angle of the mandible by the union of the posterior division of the retromandibular vein with the posterior auricular vein

16
Q

what are the segments of the dorsal scapular nerve

A

c4 c5

17
Q

what does the dorsal scapular nerve innervate?

A

rhomboids
