Navigation Suite Flashcards
Purpose
The purpose of the Navigation Suite is to collect ship’s attitude and positional data and distribute it to various weapons and navigational aid equipment. This is done IOT allow the weapons systems to create accurate fire control solutions and is required for the safe pilotage of the ship.
Cabinets
Contain Navigation Data Servers, Synchro-Digital and Digital-Synchro cards used to distribute data.
Processors
2 in Aux A, Main A, Main B,
1 in Aux B
Recieve information, synchronize it, and distribute it.
CDUs
Provide HMI for operation and maintenance
Connect to LANs
INS
Two INS units operating in Master-Slave configuration
MK 49 LRG and 3 accelerometers
Measure roll, pitch, yaw, heave, sway, surge.
NTP Servers
Generate a signal that allows synchronization.
Get their input from Force 5 GPS.
Contain rubidium oscillator clocks.
GPS
Force 5 is a secure, passive and Jam resistant GPS system managed by the United States Department of Defense.
Starlink is a differential GPS.
DSL
Measures ship’s speed th4rough water and distance travelled.
2MHz
Acoustic pulses, measures Doppler shift, bounce off boundary layer.
Transducer Assembly located forward of the sonar dome, one transducer facing forward, one aft.
Main display on bridge, additional display in Operations Room.
Echo Sounder
Uses pulse-time measurement to determine water depth.
Two transducers located forward and aft of the sonar dome.
Speed of sound for water manually input at control panel.
Connected via LAN 2.
300m (shallow), 3000m (deep)
MDDS
Gather environmental data for calculating ballistics.
Barometric Pressure/Air Temp/Humidity Sensor on Bridge Top.
Wind Speed sensor on mast.
Sea Water Temperature Sensor located in intakes for DG #2
MDDS processor (MET) located in the chart room.
AIS
Ship’s safe at sea surface navigation system.
Transmits ship’s ID, position, course, speed to nearby ships and harbour authorities.
SHINNADS
Navigational aid that provides display of enhanced electronic charts.
Recieves navigation data and overlays onto charts.
RTMON used for monitoring.
RTPLAN used to plan future routes.
Vital Users
Recieve a redundant bearing-only feed.
Centerline Pelorus
Ops Room M-Type Repeater
2x Helmsman Tape repeats.
Non-Vital Users
Recieve a single bearing only feed
COs chair repeater
Bridge M-Type repeater
Bridge Wing repeaters
Bridge Digital repeaters
Critical Users
Recieve two feeds of roll, pitch, and heading through RICS
SG-180
SIRIUS
AHWCS
RAMSES
FCDs
SeaSearch
RICS
Allow for automatic or manual chaneover of nav feeds in the event of an NDS cabinet failure.
Non-Critical Users
Recieve one feed of roll, pitch, yaw from either a Main or Aux cabinet.
