FCS Flashcards
Purpose
The Fire Control System is a radar and optronic target acquisition and tracking system used IOT control and generate fire control solutions for the 57mm Gun and the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile systems.
Caps and Lims
Tracking Radar: 15.5-17.5 GHz J-Band.
CWI: 10-10.5 MHz X-Band.
Range: 40nm
Track by radar or video.
Memory Tracking if track quality drops below acceptable levels.
FC Director
Radar and sensor unit.
Used to track targets through radar or video and illuminate tracked targets for missile guidance via CWI.
Located on the Bridge Top and Hangar Top.
Antenna Unit
Cassegrain Antenna and 3 feed horns.
Tracking radar feed horn
CWI pencil beam feed horn
CWI rear reference feed horn

Pre-Action Calibration
Locked
Director locked in position with locking pins for elevation and azimuth.
Standby.
Director positioned in predefined direction.
Conducts servo tests and calibrations every 5 minutes.
Designation
Director designated to point in direction of a hooked track.
Allows operator to use optronic sight.
Does not transmit RF energy.
Acquisition
Director beings search pattern to attempt to acquire a target.
Emitting RF energy.
Tracking
After 2 successful returns from the target.
System now capable of calcluating fire control solutions.
Pre-Action Calibration
Ensure that wind and muzzle velocity calculations are valid.
Gun fired at fictitious target.
