Navigation Equipment Flashcards
How does the FMS determines airplane position ?
The FMS determines airplane position using:
• IRS (1&2 Inertial Reference System)
• GPS 1&2
• VOR/DME
The IRS (Inertial Reference System) provides:
Attitude information to the PFD
Navigation information to the FMS
May take up to 17 mins to align on the ground. Can also be aligned in flight
Where does FPA (Flight Path Angle ) gets its information from?
The FPA (Flight Path Angle) uses both IRS and ADS (Air Data System) information.
Primary Navigation Source on PFD
Displays the selected navigation source and waypoint information. (Found in lower left of PFD)
• Magenta – FMS Navigation
• Green – Onside VOR/LOC Navigation
• Amber – Cross-side navigation
Data Block on PFD
Displays distance and time information when available. Lower right of PFD
MFD WEATHER RADAR “SECT” selection:
SECT (Sector) – Reduces scan from 60⁰ either side of the nose to 30⁰ (but doubles the sweep rate from 12 to 24 per minute)
MFD Weather Radar “Stan Off” selection:
STAB OFF – The radar is stabilized with the IRS. Selecting STAB OFF turns off the stabilization.
MFD weather Radar “TGT” selection:
TGT (Target)– Displays a green TGT in the Weather control box. The TGT turns amber if a cell is detected beyond the zoom range (limited to 7.5⁰ either side of the nose and 200 miles)
MFD Weather Radar “RCT” selection:
RCT – Increases gain as weather is detected in an attempt to “see beyond” weather. If it can’t “see beyond” (radar is attenuated), it paints a cyan area on the map.
ID Filter button function:
Activated a filter that eliminates voice on VOR and ADF audio so the identification can be heard.
Auto/Mask Microphone Switch button on the ACP (Audio Control Panel)
Auto(Pushed In): Automatically selects the mask microphone if the mask stowage box doors are opened)
Mask(Pushed out): Selects the oxygen masks microphone(for use when mode fails)
The indicated airspeed trend vector signifies what?
Indicates where the airspeed is predicted to be in 10 seconds.
Green dot indicates what on the PFD?
Indicates at least 1.3g over shaker speed. Compensates for configuration and ice. Commonly used as a minimum flying speed.
