Nature of Science Flashcards
Hypothesis
educated guesses based on prior knowledge; they provide possible answers to scientific questions and must be testable.
Experimental Hypothesis
Also called alternative hypothesis, experiment will either reject or support this hypothesis.
Alternative Hypothesis
Also called Experimental hypothesis, experiment will either reject or support this hypothesis.
Null hypothesis
there is no difference between the IV and DV
Example:The length of time I study will have no effect on the grade I will receive.
Claim
Is a statement about the investigation, it addresses the original question.
Observation
looking at something and taking mental notes.
Inquiry
a question
Independent Variable
AKA: IV (manipulated)-what the experimenter changes.
Dependent Variable
AKA:DV(response)-what happens as a result of what changed or was manipulated.
Bar Graph
If it is words (qualitative) make it a bar graph
Control Gorup
used to compare-it is in normal conditions
Experimental group
the group you are testing
Data
what you are collecting from the experiment
Evidence
specific data from lab investigation
Quantitative Data
numerical datal
