Microscope Test Flashcards
Eyepiece/Ocular Lens:
the eyepiece contains the Ocular lens, which is the magnifying lens that you can look through, (100x magnification)
Body tube/head
connects the eyepiece to the objective lens.
Rotating nosepiece
Holds the objective lens and can be rotated to switch between different lenses.
Objective lens
additional lenses that increase magnification. Typically there are 3 lenses at lower power magnification (4 x). Medium power magnification is 10x. High power magnification is 40x.
Arm
connects the lens system to stage and base. Wen clarifying microscope 1 han should always hold arm (other hand supports base)
Stage clips
hold specimen slide in place to prevent moving.
Diaphragm
located under stage, this controls the side of an aperture (hole) which determines the amount of light that reaches the specimen from the illuminator.
Condenser lens
located under stage focuses light from illuminator onto specimen.
Coarse adjustment Knob
Moves stage up and own for initial focusing of specimen (never use with high power objective lens)
Fine Adjustment Knob
Moves stage slightly to fine tune the focusing of the specimen.
Base
supports microscope . When carrying microscope, one hands should always support the base (while other hadn’t holds arm).
Illuminate/light source
produces light and projects it upwards through the hole on the stage, the specimen and objective lens,.
power switch
turns microscope lights off and on.
