Natural Selection And Evolution Flashcards
1
Q
Natural selection
A
- process where organisms which are most adapted survive and reproduce
- passing their genes on
- species can evolve like this
2
Q
Evolution
A
Development of a species over time
3
Q
Fossil
A
- The remains of plants and animals
- Have turned to stone
- reverted by natural processes
4
Q
Evolution process
A
- started with unicellular organisms
- overtime they evolved to become multicellular organisms
- this resulted in organisms that can live on land/air
5
Q
Natural selection process:
A
-organisms in a species show variation
-organisms which are most adapted will survive/reproduce
-less adapted organisms will die out + ’survival of the fittest’
-genes pass onto offspring making them well adapted too

Q
Peppered moths example of evolution/natural selection
A
- before industrial revolution moths were pale to camouflage w/ the bark
- some moths were dark coloured
- after Industrial rev, soot covered trees = made the Black
- the pale coloured moths died out = they were spotted easily
- darker coloured maths survived more and reproduced
- darker coloured moths overtook pale moths in population
