How is the liver affected by alcohol

A
  • Excess alcohol consumption leads to the liver failing
  • it breaks down the ethanol in the alcohol so that it can leave as waste
  • but it irritates the liver cells and causes lots of fibrous scar tissue to surround the liver limiting functionality (potentially losing it completely)
  • you develop cirrhosis =permanent liver damage
