Joints and muscles Flashcards
Joints
Where two or more bones meet to form movement by contraction or relaxation of muscles
Hinge joint and example
- Allows movement up to 180 degrees
- back and forward
- elbow and knee
Ball and socket joints + examples
-Allow movement up to 360 degrees
-a lot of movement
Shoulder and hip
Pivot joint + example
-Movement up to 360 degrees
-can be restricted because of some muscles
Neck
Fixed joint + example
- where two bone meet but don’t move
- fusion= no growth
- cranium
Ligament and features
- Connects two bones/ aligns them
- elastic like = stretchy
Tendons and features
- Joins muscle to bone
- tough and sturdy to keep them together
Cartilage and features
- Protects bones from rubbing against each other and wearing
- helps bones to slide over each other for movement
- strong and sponges
Synovial fluid
- absorbs impact
- Acts as a lubricant
- Prevent friction
Human body bones amount
600 muscles
3 types of muscles and meanings
- skeletal = attaches to bones, movement
- smooth= lines blood vessels and certain organs
- cardiac= heart muscles only
Muscle
Group of tissues that work together to perform actions
Muscles cells
Fibres (tightly packed) receive signals from nervous system which sends order
Which cells do not take orders form the nervous system
Cillia
Sperm cells
White blood cells
How to muscles move
- they pull by contracting
- work in pairs
