Define an aircraft accident.
A
Occurrence in which death, serious injury, or substantial aircraft damage occurs.

Define an aircraft incident.
A
Occurrence other than an accident that affects, or could affect aircraft safety of operations.

When is immediate notification of the NTSB required?
A
When an aircraft accident, or any of the following occur:
- Flight control system malfunction or failure
- Inability of any required flight crew member to perform normal duties due to illness or injury
- In flight fire
- Collision in flight
- Damage to property, other than the aircraft, in which damage exceeds $25000, or fair market value in the event of a total loss, whichever is less

Define the term serious injury.
A
- Requires hospitalization for more than 48 hours commencing within 7 days from the date the injury was received
- Results in a fracture of any bone
- Causes severe hemorrhages, nerve, muscle, or tendon damage
- Involves any internal organ
- Involves 2nd or 3rd degree burns, or any burns affecting more than 5 percent of the body surface

When should you file a report with the NTSB?
A
Within 10 days, only if they ask.
