Early stage - focuses on present not childhood memories
Middle stage - finding exceptions and unique outcomes (sparkling moments)
Later stage - communities of concern - to help support new narrative
Deconstruction - examine social context that supports the symptomatic presentation, questioning assumptions about nature of client’s realities and truths
Reauthorizing - after deconstruction develop alternate stories
reality - socially constructed and contingent upon cultural beliefs and discourses
Postmodernism reflects changes in the way people understand knowledge or truth, including knowledge about psychological health and therapy. Postmodernism emphasizes the importance of pluralism and diversity along with the need for dialogue.
