Milan Systemic Flashcards
Uses - more language based interventions such as reframing and circular questions
Family Games - interaction patterns that create homeostasis
punctuates - blame each other
Positive Connotation -form of reframing the family’s behavior in which symptomatic behavior is seen as positive because it helps to maintain the system’s balance.
Shift family interactions by shifting family’s epistemology and view of the problem (lot of attention to language)

Circular Questions (understand logic of system and patterns)
- behavioral sequence (when x gets mad what does y do)
- behavioral difference (x is a nag, how do you make a request, how does y - reframed)
- comparison and ranking questions (who is the least helpful, hardest worker, etc)
- before and after questions
- hypothetical circular questions (if __ who would be the most worried, helpful)
Long Term Brief Therapy - once a month
- Pre-session
- Session
- intersession
- Intervention
- Discussion
- by session 3 - only parents -
Therapist = Conductor
neutrality - non-partiality
multi-partiality - willingness to honor all perspectives
Achieve new meaning - that changes the games (interactional behavior sequences)
reframing - interpret behavior with underlying benevolent motivation
Rituals
behavior assignments addressing double binds
help shift meanings
ex - act like a wife on odd days and mother on even days
Invariant Prescription
severs covert coalitions between parent and child
creates secret between parents - ends inappropriate coalitions
clear boundaries b/t unified parents and child
