Mechanism of action
A
Competitive Inhibition at narcotic receptor sites. Reverses respiratory depression secondary to opiate overdose.

Respiratory depression induced by opioids

A
Hypersensitivity, neonates born from opiate addicted others

Hypotension, N/V, seizures, agitation, Acute withdrawal syndrome, cardiac arrhythmias

Precautions
A
Incompatible with alkaline solutions
Acute withdrawal syndrome may result in a combative patient

A
0.4-2.0 mg slow IV push titrated to effect. Can be given IO,IV,IM,SQ,IN
Pedi: 0.1 mg/kg (up to 2 mg)
