Mechanism of action
Increases BGL by stimulating Glycogenolysis. Decreases gastric motility and secretions, Stabilizes cardiac rhythm in Beta blocker OD, has + inotropic and chronotropic effects
Indications
Altered LOC with hypoglycemia, reversal agent in beta blocker and calcium blocker OD. relaxation smooth muscles in esophageal obstruction
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity
Hyperglycemia
Adverse Effects
Hypotension, dizziness, headache, N/V, tachycardia
Precautions
Not effective if patient does not have any glycogen stores in liver.
Dose
Hypoglycemia: 1 mg IM
Ca + Beta blocker OD: 3-10mg initial IV push followed by infusion rate of 3-10mg/h
Pedi: 0.03- 0.1 mg/kg up to 1mg IM
