Alpha and Beta (some A but more B)
Beta 1:+ inotropic, chronotropic, and dromotropic effects
Beta 2: Bronchial smooth muscle dilation
Indications
Cardiac Arrest, symptomatic bradycardia,. Refractory to atropine and pacing, allergic reaction, anaphylaxis, asthma
Contraindications
Hypertension, Hypothermia, Pulmonary edema, Myocardial Ischemia, Hypovolemic shock,
Adverse effects
Headache, tremors, HTN, pulmonary edema, dysrhythmias, chest pain, tachycardia, N/V, anxiety
Precautions
Inactivated by exposure to light and alkaline solutions. MAOI’s may potentiate effects. Beta blockers will blunt effects.
Dose
Asthma and Anaphylaxis: 0.3-0.5 mg IM
Cardiac Arrest: 1mg IV of 1:10,000
Bradycardia: 2-10mcg/min infusion 1:10,000
Pediatric: 0.01 mg/kg IV/IO 1:10,000
