Aims to promote adaptation and maintain wholeness using the four principles of conservation
Conservation Model of Nursing
Balancing energy input and output to avoid excessive fatigue.
Conservation of energy
Maintaining or restoring the structure of body preventing physical breakdown and promote healing
Conservation of structural integrity
Value of self identity, self worth, and self respect
Conservation of personal integrity
Reflected in dynamic relationships among human beings
Conservation of social integrity
The process by which individuals ‘fit’ the environments in which they live.
Adaptation
Exists when the patient’s interaction with the environment allows integrity to be assured.
Wholeness
Product of adaptation; achieved when there is a balance between the energy supply and demand in the unique biological needs of patients
Conservation
The wholeness of the individual (sense of independence & selfhood)
Integrity
The defense of “wholeness”; the avenue of return to the daily activities compromised by ill health
