What is it?
A
- painful condition of abnormal calcification within a muscle belly

What is it caused by?
A
- usually precipitated by direct trauma that results in hematoma and calcification of muscle

A
- quads, brachial, biceps brachii

medications
A
- acetaminophen and/or NSAIDS-

surgical care
A
- only warranted if pt has non-hereditary MO and only after maturation of the lesion (6-24 mo)
- indicated when lesions mechanically interfere with joint movement or impinges on nerves

PT goals, outcomes, interventions
A
- implementation of flexibility exercises –> avoid being overly aggressive or it could worsen
- manual therapy for maintenance of joint mechanics
- aerobics
