Myofasical Pain Syndrome Flashcards
1
Q
What is it?
A
characterized by clinical entity known as a “trigger point” which is a focal point of irritability found within a muscle
2
Q
active TrP
A
- tender to palpation and have a characteristic referral pattern of pain when provoked
3
Q
latent TrP
A
- palpable taut bands that are not tender to palpation but can be converted into an active trigger point
4
Q
onset
A
- hypothesized to sudden overload, overstretching, and/or repetitive/strained muscle activities
5
Q
medical interventions
A
- dry needling
- injection of analgesic, possibly combined with corticosteroid
6
Q
Manual therapy for TrP
A
- soft tissue massage and joint oscillations
- joint mob to specific restriction of biomechanical fault
- “spray and stretch”
-TENS, cold, hot, hydrotherapy, sound agents
7
Q
What type of exercise should you do for TrP
A
- strength, power, and endurance
- active assit, active, resistive
- task specific performance training
8
Q
types of TrP release
A
- trigger point compression (ischemic compression)
- trigger point pressure release/myofascial release
- manual techniques like occipital release
- spray and stretch
