- active inflammatory condition
- joint effusion/inflammation
- osteoporosis
- hyper mobility (EDS)
- arthrosis
- internal derangement of joint
- general conditions: chronic disease, pregnancy, flu
Contraindications to mechanical traction
- joint hyper mobility
- pregnancy
- RA
- down syndrome
- any other systemic disease that affects ligamentous integrity
Contraindications to high compression
ABI < 0.7
- all sustained compression is contraindicated with ABI <0.6 or active DVT
contraindications for walking with arterial ulcer
- chronic ischemic rest pain
- ulcerations
- gangrene
- ABI <0.4
contraindications for stretching
- recent, unhealed fracture
- acute inflammation or infection
- sharp/acute pain with motion or muscle elongation
- hematoma
- shortened structures providing functional or joint stability
precautions for stretching
- recently healed fractures
- osteoporosis
- prolonged immobilization
- vigorous stretching to structures that have decreased tensile abilities
- joint pain/soreness > 24 hours
- edematous tissue
- bony block
- valsalva
diathermy contraindications
-metal implants or pacemakers
- malignancy
- pregnancy
- eyes
- testes
- growing epiphyses
precautions for diathermy
- electronic or magnetic equipment in the vicinity
- obesity
- copper-bearing intrauterine contraceptive device
laser therapy contraindications
- cancerous lesions
- active malignancy
- pregnancy
absolute contraindications for exercise testing
- acute MI within 2 days
- ongoing unstable angina
- uncontrolled cardiac dysthymias causing symptoms or hemodynamic compromise
- systematic severe aortic stenosis
- uncontrolled symptomatic heart failure
- recent systemic or pulmonary embolism or DVT
- acute myocarditis, pericarditis
- acute aortic dissection
absolute contraindications to exercise during pregnancy
- pre-eclampsia or pregnancy induced hypertension
- pre term rupture of membranes
- preterm labor
- incompetent cervix
- persistent 2nd or 3rd trimester bleeding
- intrauterine growth retardation
- higher order pregnancy
- uncontrolled T1DM, hypertension, thyroid disease, respiratory or systemic disorder
contraindications for paraffin wax
allergic rash, open wound, recent scars and sutures, skin infections
contraindications for whirlpool
- dont do it for wound management
- local immersion: maceration, bleeding
- full body immersion: unstable cardiac disorder, bowel incontinence, severe epilepsy, suicidal, potential for cross contamination
